Abstract
One out of every ten adult Latinos/Hispanics has been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. For Latino-Americans, the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes is between 9% and 11% of the population, compared with 6% in non-Latino white Americans. Certain factors account for these higher rates in Hispanics compared withunrise Model of Cultural Care Diversity and Universality, identifying these factors will improve management of the disease. This study surveys a sample of professional literature in the United States and identifies the dimensions of Transcultural Nursing per Leininger considered in health care management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among Latinos. Implications that may affect nursing management of Diabetes Mellitus among Latinos in the United States are also discussed.
