Abstract
This study determined that cross-function work teams provide improved functional service quality in hospitals. The information was gathered through interviews of 12 hospital personnel directors, guided by a set of pre-determined questions regarding hospital structure. Eleven of twelve hospitals reported a hierarchical structure is the organizational structure they use. The remaining hospital uses a customer oriented organizational structure. Ten hospitals identified the use of cross-functional work teams in their organization. The hospitals utilizing cross-functional work teams indicated improved functional service quality.
