Abstract
The word "memory" has the same origins as "memorial"and "memorandum," and all of them have been thought to function in a similar way. In memory, a record of verbal behavior or some other object is produced and stored somewhere. When needed later, the information stored in memory is retrieved. The evolution of the memory metaphor has recently accelerated in pace, keeping up with the physical technology upon which it is based.
