Abstract
Traditionally, the Individual Is seen by society as either enmeshed In the family or alone, outside the family structure and without societal connections. This limited viewpoint Is challenged In the work of Erik H. Erikson, a developmental psychologist. Erikson sees man as developing Into a psychologically fully functioning whole within the context of others. The generative role of the family Is especially stressed.
