Abstract
This paper is almost solely based on the experiences of one area man in the Civil War. Though I used certain books and newspapers to provide a stronger foundation and fill in certain gaps, the majority of my research was done with the Hodgman Family Papers. These papers are located in the Regional History Collection here at Western.
