Abstract
This paper traces my own personal development as a writer, from my earliest connections to the written language, through my experiences in school, to find the emerging writer with an individual voice and style and a passion for writing that I am today. I will look at some of the unique circumstances that influenced my growth. Interwoven throughout my story are teacher interviews, research on tracking, and samples of my writing. I will examine the impact that tracking had on me as a writer, as well as contemplate the influence that individual teachers can have on a student's success.
