Abstract
Throughout the history of childbirth, women have predominantly been the support persons involved in helping women labor and give birth. Women were the original midwives, and childbirth was considered "women's realm" (Brodsky, 2006). Within the last 50 years, there have been several changes in the culture of labor and delivery in the United States. One of the most notable changes has been the inclusion of the child's father in the labor and delivery room. This change in labor and delivery room culture has created interest regarding men's experiences of their child's birth.
