Abstract
Education of exceptional people in Kenya has advanced tremendously over the last forty years, from the time when only a few students were served to the current time when educational services are offered to about 8,500 students according to "Report on Education and Manpower Training", by Kamunge (1988). Special education in the country started around 1946, soon after the Second World War. It is important to stress that Kenya is one of the few African countries that has taken great strides in the education of handicapped people and in the improvement of the social and economic lives of this special population (Njoroge, 1988).
