Abstract
During the formative stages of this choreography project I was motivated to create a piece that would express the inner energy I feel when dancing. It has been my desire to somehow find a way to pass this energy to those around me and, in movement, create a unified force. I feel this energy originates from the inner core of my body, wells up, and flows from me when I move. It is a feeling of passion and energy. This energy also surrounds us, it is everywhere and unifies every living thing. The dance I created is entitled "Umoja", which means "unity" in Swahili, because it is appropriate for this multicultural and universal theme.
