Abstract
I would contend that in Shakespeare's tragic period, he was not interested in producing simple cause and effect dramas, allegories or in dealing with men on a symbolic level. Othello, and the other tragedies of this period are unquestionably chiefly concerned with the complex functioning of flesh and blood human beings, and especially they deal with man's propensity to submit to the forces of evil. Specifically then, Othello is about the relationship between lago and Othello.
