Abstract
The Laureate is a literary journal first published in 2002 with the intent of creating a journal for publication of undergraduate creative writing at Western Michigan University. The journal began with one very motivated student, Jill Winkler, who was dismayed to find no undergraduate literary journal at the university. She, along with her pioneering editorial board, organized and brought the Laureate to life with the financial support of the Lee Honors College and the advice of a graduate advisor, Margaret von Steinen.
