Abstract
Throughout the majority of Kafka's work the concept of space and confinement occupies a high rank amongst his reoccurring themes. This depiction does not only appear as an awareness of the protagonist's current physical location, but it also appears as an awareness of where the protagonist isn't and where he cannot get into or out of. This delicate balance of where the protagonist wants to be as opposed to where he is can be characterized as the Cage Motif.
