Abstract
With over hundred concerts at four unique properties in ninety days, Palace Sports and Entertainment is Michigan’s home for entertainment every summer. As an Event Coordination intern in the summer of 2016, I was given the opportunity to experience why these concerts are successful.
Most shows rely heavily on the artist to market the event. The mindset is that the show should not have been booked if the marketing team has to get involved. The goal is to bring popular, sellout crowds by booking the right artists at the right time. This business model stresses the importance of the booking agent and how their job determines how profitable the summer will be. The real reason why these concerts are successful is the endless hours put in behind the scenes that gives guest the incredible experience of being at a show. Without the whole staff playing on the same team, the shows would not operate the way it should.
Lastly, I had the opportunity to be the Event Coordinator for a concert on campus in April. Campus Activities Board (CAB) brought Panic! At The Disco to Western Michigan University and as the Concerts Coordinator, I was the lead coordinator for the event. There is was only slight differences in how I planned the Panic! show and how we planned shows for Palace Sports & Entertainment.
