Abstract

Recent experiments performed at Western Michigan University using the tandem accelerator have investigated excited states in oxygen-16 near an excitation energy of 18.0 MeV. Little information has previously been collected about the levels in this energy region. Specifically the spin and the parity of all of the levels have not been determined. It is the goal of the present investigation to determine the spin and parity of the levels by using partial wave phase shift analysis techniques on elastic scattering data from the 12C(α,α)12C reaction.
