Abstract

In this thesis, the author attempts to demonstrate that Marc Chagall's four years in Paris (1910-114) had a definite and positive effect on his painting techniques and career. The paper is divided into three sections. The first consists of background information primarily dealing with thematic influences. The second section is a study of Fauvism, Cubism, and Orphism on the work itself. The third section explores Chagall's literary inclinations, his affinity with the poets and journalists of the time, and their subsequent promotion of his career.
