Abstract
Functional foods provide a viable open market for the development of products to meet the changing health needs of the consumer. The paper begins by giving an overview of the development of functional foods before moving on to examine different definitions for functional foods that exist. Then the author discusses various health problems that consumers currently face and how they relate to diet and nutrition.
