Abstract
At the very beginning of our nation the authors of the Constitution established the primary charter to govern the lives of United States citizens. This was intended as a set of rules to be followed if the ideal of democracy was to become a reality and a success. Our new nation had just emerged from under the control of the British government in which citizens had little say or influence regarding their lives, and had almost no means of learning about actions the government was planning and executing. The writers of the Constitution wished to guarantee such an authoritarian government would never exist in America.
