Abstract
This thesis investigates the policies and resultant challenges of Latin American healthcare through a specific case study of Guatemala. I will describe the historical events and economic policies that built the current system of healthcare, the various segments of the system, the challenges of implementation, and conclude with an outlook of future prospects and possibilities in healthcare reform. Considerable healthcare reform has been undertaken in Guatemala, but varying social and economic factors are challenging further progress and indicating the need for modification of the current system.
