A session of papers in memoriam to Carl F. Barnes Jr. on the Portfolio of Villard de Honnecourt, the only French builder of the gothic era to leave a manuscript of drawings and instructions related to the construction of gothic cathedrals. Before his recent and lamentable death, Barnes was the premiere American specialist on the Villard manuscript and the author of the authoritative annotated bibliography of publications related to the 13th-century Picard builder who is known to us only through his enigmatic manuscript.
