Description

The Age of Alfred the Great stands out for developments in political, military, and intellectual history; significant artistic and manuscript productions; and a number of texts on a range of topics. This year's session will feature papers on several Alfredian texts, particularly the Old English Boethius and Soliloquies, the First Fifty Psalms of the Paris Psalter, the Laws, and Asser's Life of King Alfred. Speakers will address sources such as the De consolatione philosophiae (Consolation of Philosophy), the Bible; and influences, particularly on The Proverbs of Alfred. The speakers are addressing topics that include sources and influences, proverbs, prayer and meditation, healing, and the mind.
