Description
Virtues are a key element in medieval Franciscan writings. They are very important building blocks for a life according to the "teaching and footprints of our Lord Jesus Christ". Francis says that the virtues proceed from the Lord and are "poured into the hearts of the faithful through the grace and enlightenment of the Holy Spirit." Many of the essential virtues described and recommended by Francis and Franciscan theologians have received little attention in current research. Our focus of our session will be on some of the lesser-known virtues: goodness, obedience, humility and zeal. How do these virtues function in the early Franciscan community?
Michael F. Cusato, O.F.M.
