Description

This session proposes to explore the connection, or lack thereof, between Merlin and the Round Table, and simultaneously the extant variants about the Round Table’s creation and function. It focuses on Merlin as narrative tool exploited in romances, rather than Merlin as prophet and political marker. Also, it goes back to the origins of both a character and an object that are too easily taken for granted in studies of the Arthurian canon.
