Description

Geneviéve Hasenohr's discovery of the Valenciennes manuscript and Robert Lerner's 2008 Speculum article "New Light on The Mirror of Simple Souls," has renewed interest in this fourteenth century mystical text. Brill's 2017 A Companion to Marguerite Porete and The Mirror of Simple Souls brings a range of that scholarship together in the hopes that it will inspire even further scrutiny of this enigmatic book and its nearly anonymous author. The editors of the Companion discuss where scholarship has been looking and new readings into the text.
