Biography

Ed Roth currently serves as Associate Professor of Music Therapy, Coordinator of Clinical Experiences, and Co-Founder and Director of the Laboratory for Brain Research and Interdisciplinary Neurosciences (BRAIN). He specializes in the application of music in the treatment of neurologic disorders and diseases of the central nervous system in pediatric and adult populations and prior to his faculty position, he was a clinical music therapist at Blythedale Children's Hospital outside of New York City. His research has been widely published in international journals of rehabilitation medicine, music therapy, counseling, and perceptual and motor skills. He is a frequent national and international presenter most recently at George Washington University Medical Center (Washington, D.C.), the Universitat Pampeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain), 1st International Congress on Clinical Neuromusicology (Salzburg, Austria), and served as chair of the Neuroscience and Music Institute hosted by the American Music Therapy Association (San Diego, CA). He has functioned as the project director and/or principal investigator on several grants, and among other honors, his 'Promise Project' with at-risk children and adolescents was recently recognized by the Communities in Schools organization with a CHAMPS award. As a marimbist and drummer, Ed has had a lifelong interest in percussion and his current research is directed toward better understanding the neuroanatomical, neurophysiological and clinical application of music improvisation toward the emotional rehabilitation of children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
