Abstract
This capstone project aimed to create and disseminate a range of occupational therapy (OT) resources and educational guides for teachers and faculty within the general education classroom, specifically addressing tier 1 and 2 supports of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). These OT-based strategies which are focused on posture, handwriting, scissor skills, sensory processing, dressing skills, and more, are designed to enhance student engagement and performance within the academic setting. Despite the positive outcome potential of OT utilization within schools, strategies are often underutilized due to inadequate training, limited understanding of OT's role, and restricted access to resources. This project addressed these gaps through collaboration with teachers and team members at Lakeview Public Schools, the development of comprehensive OT resource documents, and advocacy efforts for the role of OT. The outcomes demonstrated increased awareness and utilization of OT strategies, which contributed to improved student support and engagement in the school setting.
