Introduction
Abstract
In lieu of an abstract, the first paragraph of the essay follows:
This special annual issue of Comparative Drama features some of the most noteworthy research—by graduate students and veteran scholars, movement coaches and directors, theatre historians and dramatic literature scholars—from the 2024 Comparative Drama Conference, held in Orlando, Florida, hosted by Rollins College. Each year, the Comparative Drama Conference gathers scholars, playwrights, dramaturgs, critics, directors, designers, and performers for lively intellectual conversation and staged readings of new plays. The 2024 conference was the 46th gathering of the CDC, which was founded in 1977 by Karelisa Hartigan at the University of Florida; over the decades, it has been hosted by Ohio State University (led by Stratos Constantinidis), Loyola Marymount University (Kevin J. Wetmore, Jr.), Stevenson University (Laura Snyder), and Rollins College (Bill Boles). From 2025–2030, the conference will be co-hosted by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), under the direction of Mark O'Thomas and Nicholas Holden, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by Baron Kelly and Ann Shanahan, with conference gatherings alternating between London and Madison. We welcome you to join us.
