HOYAS CPIP: A two-year intervention research project for rural youth
Abstract
This paper will review HOYAS CPIP, a two-year college preparation intervention project for lower-income rural middle schoolers. Academic preparation, college and career readiness, leadership skills, and caregiver development were targeted through weekly tutoring, semi-monthly weekend activities, and a summer camp. Results indicate HOYAS CPIP partially succeeded in meeting some objectives. Lessons learned from implementation and effective methods for conducting intervention research in rural settings will be discussed.
