Abstract

As the United States moves toward becoming an informational society, there will be an increasing need to administer large quantities of interrelated data for commercial and administrative purposes. Thus the processing of information will be one of the most important tasks. To help in the processing of information more efficiently, data base systems are becoming more widely used.

This paper will discuss a data base environment, what a data base is, an overview of how it works and characteristics and advantages of a data base. Along with this, internal, application controls in a computer-based information system will be discussed. An illustration relating to inventory control of a wholesaling warehouse will demonstrate some of the features of both data bases and internal controls.
