Abstract

The history of American music reflects a diverse, ever-changing American culture. Within the past hundred years, many American composers have pioneered new musical territory, while others have continued to use elements of more traditional styles and forms. The two composers Robert Russell Bennett and Robert Suderburg clearly illustrate these contrasting approaches through their respective works, Rose Variations and Chamber Music VII: Ceremonies for trumpet and piano.
