Date of Defense
In describing Henry Miller as an artist-clown, I do not mean to say that his purpose in writing is to make people laugh. But there is a deep strain of comic thought under lying all his "quaint biographical romances." While he can be serious at times, or amusing, he is always comic, always a clown.
