Abstract
The works of J, D. Salinger have progressed in several ways from his earliest published works. The subject matter has changed in an attempt to meet the purposes of the author, and I believe that these stales or purposes of the author fit into four main groups—the observer, the philosopher, the preacher, and the mystic.
