Abstract
Eaton Corporation - Axle & Brake Division manufactures powered axles for the Truck Industry. Eaton is currently redesigning their medium duty tandem axle to reduce costs and increase performance. The new medium duty Eaton axle is called the "New Highway Tandem." A pump is used in axles to lubricate internal components and the pump used in the New Highway Tandem axle is a completely new design. To verify the pump design, performance testing of the New Highway Tandem pump and a competitor's pump is required.
A test fixture was designed to test both the Eaton New Highway Tandem pump and a competitor's pump at a variety of temperatures and speeds. The test fixture was designed to be portable to test the pumps inside an environmental chamber at a variety of temperatures. The fixture has a variable speed drive to test the pumps at various speeds. Test procedures were created to performance test the pumps using the designed test fixture.
