Abstract
Identity is a one-person short play written and performed by Jesús Barajas, an actor and recent graduate from Western Michigan University’s theatre department. The play encompasses Jesús’ experience growing up as a gay, Mexican man in a white, heteronormative world. Using vignettes spanning his childhood and adolescence, Jesús takes the audience through the most formative moments of his life. The piece was written with guidance from Dwandra Nickole Lampkin, associate professor of theatre at Western Michigan University and author of her own one-person play, The Conviction of Lady Lorraine.
