Abstract

The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) is a community-based non-profit institution governed by a board of directors. The mission of the KIA is to offer to the residents of Southwest Michigan quality visual arts educational programs and services that encourage the creation and appreciation of art. This mission demands a developed public relations management plan that effectively covers the broad range of publics of the KIA, both internally and externally. It is these publics which are the source of financial, physical and communication support for the KIA. Currently the KIA has no such formally written public relations management plan. The last long range plan was developed in 1991 by the current Executive Director shortly after he came to the institute. The KIA must now develop another long range public relations management plan that will carry it with expansive success into the next century.
