Description

In 2013, almost through happenstance, a small pocket-sized manuscript up for auction was discovered to contain a hitherto unknown copy of short life of Francis of Assisi. Dated by experts to the 1230s, it has been determined to be a new, brief life (Vita brevior) of Thomas of Celano, official hagiographer of the Franciscan order. This session will explain the details of its discovery, its content and the unusual contents of the rest of the manuscript.
