This session treats Anglo-Saxon history and literature, specifically the circle of Alfred the Great and the implications and influences of their work in early medieval England. Grossi's "King Alfred, Author of the Thames" will examine the Alfred-Guthrum treaty in terms of Border Studies and the creation of political, military, and cultural landscapes through Alfred's authorship and the . Discenza's paper will explore the representation of queens in the Old English *Orosius* in light of texts and practices contemporary with the translation.
