Description

This session explores the transmission of romance over the ocean in two senses: the first being the transfer of literary motifs in romance; and the second being the exchange of romance manuscripts across the sea, especially across the North Atlantic. How does the identity of a character change across versions of one romance? How are romance themes and motifs transferred between literary cultures? We seek to understand issues of genre, individual identity, and textual transmission, and invite discussion of this in response to a panel of two papers. Rebecca Drake
