CONGRESS CANCELED Malory Aloud: Women in Camelot, a Readers' Theater Performance

Medieval Institute, Western Michigan University

Description

This year, Malory Aloud will be celebrating its 20th year as part of the International Congress of Medieval Studies. Our theme for this year is Women in Camelot. We hope that our performance can explore the various ways Malorian women wield power and authority throughout their narratives. As such, we'll be pulling iconic scenes featuring the ladies from the Morte Darthur. Guinevere, Morgan le Fay, Nynyve, and various Ladies of the Lake instigate quests, hand out magical swords, and influence important political relationship between kingdoms. These scenes will be read aloud in a Malorian dialect, to further highlight how elements of our theme and the humor of the text come alive when performed.
