CONGRESS CANCELED Piers Plowman's Manuscripts

Medieval Institute, Western Michigan University

Description

While the manuscripts of Piers Plowman have long been central to our understanding of this poem, there is still much we do not know: where, outside of London, was the poem copied? What sorts of scribes copied the poem? Who were some of the earliest owners? With what other texts did the poem tend to travel? Answering such questions will help scholars better understand the place of this most popular Middle English poem within the literary and cultural history of fourteenth- and fifteenth-century England.
