CONGRESS CANCELED Copying, Editing, and Correction: How Accurate Is It?

Medieval Institute, Western Michigan University

Description

This session will compare manuscripts and printed books with their exemplars when known or with other copies to show how texts are changed by later writers, editors or correctors. Authors might emend their own texts; scribes and printers also engage in changing or updating texts. In MS chronicles, the text is ongoing and updated by later writers as time unfolds. Speakers also address how texts are revised to appeal to specific audiences. Martha W. Driver

Keywords: writers, editors, authors, correctors
