Abstract

The purpose of this capstone project was to assist a vocational rehabilitation program at Community Connections in Sterling Heights, Michigan with developing requirements for CARF Accreditation for individuals independently living with post-traumatic brain injury. This work program site is unique in the fact it is primarily run by Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Achieving CARF Accreditation, which stands for Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, demonstrates that standards are being met and provides greater satisfaction and the possibility for reimbursement and funding for a program. The overall aim was to assist in the development of the primary materials needed to start the CARF process for the work program, which as stated in the objectives below, included expanding on an established onboarding process, researching and describing tools utilized to measure service delivery, administering and analyzing evaluation tools and feedback surveys, and documenting policies and procedures currently used within the work program. These objectives helped to achieve the main goal of contributing to certain sections of CARF to implement the latest needs of the work program, including Performance Measurement and Management, Performance Improvement, and Vocational Services. Through developing trainings, what and why certain evaluation tools are being used, and the policies/procedures documented, it enables the work program to demonstrate to external stakeholders and CARF surveyors that standards are being met and the occupational therapy process of initial evaluation and intervention to reach individualized goals of the participants is shown through the evidence and services provided.
