Abstract
This paper will attempt to connect content standards to curricula for the preparation of teachers as exemplified by the astronomy content found in standards documents in the United States and in teacher preparation programs at Michigan institutions. The astronomy content identified in the Michigan Content Standards will be compared to the astronomy content found in a selection of standards documents from across the United States. These standards will also be compared with the required and elective science coursework at some Michigan teacher preparation institutions. The results lead to a brief discussion of the role of K-12 standards in teacher education.
