Description
"Alfredian Texts and Contexts" examines texts, artifacts, events, and other matters connected to Alfred the Great's reign and the works it produced. All three papers for 2017 focus on construction: the construction of national identity in Anglo-Saxon Chronicle through the selection, organization, and elaboration of sources; the construction of the book as both concept and material object in the Old English Boethius; and the construction of buildings in the Preface to the Soliloquies, from Alfred's imagined "cotlyf" to his burhs and towns.
