Yonadab: Peter Shaffer's Earlier Dramas Revisited in the Court of King David

Abstract

In lieu of an abstract, the first paragraph of the essay follows:

Yonadab, which opened at the National Theatre in London on 4 December 1985, bears a striking resemblance to three other major plays by Peter Shaffer: The Royal Hunt of the Sun, Equus, and Amadeus. Similarities are most evident in the area of structure, characterization, themes, and stagecraft. Since Yonadab is the most recent and the least familiar of the works concerned, it will receive most of the attention here.

Comparative Drama is carried by JSTOR and Project MUSE.
