Introduction: Monstrous Genealogies

Abstract

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

The current issue of Comparative Drama is a special issue featuring some of the best work from the Monsters in Performance working group at the 2025 convening of the American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR). Since our first gathering in 2018, we have seen this working group evolve from a loose confederacy of weirdos into one of the most productive working groups of the conference, producing three edited collections with Routledge: Monsters in Performance: Essays on the Aesthetics of Disqualification (2022), The Figure of the Monster in Global Performance (2024), and Monstrous Utopias: Performance and the Radical Possibility of Hope (2026). Continuing this legacy of productivity, we are excited to share these essays, book reviews, and performance reviews.

Comparative Drama is carried by JSTOR and Project MUSE.
