(Re)modeling the “Myth”: Reexamining Asian American Pacific Islander Identity, Visibility, and Allyship

Presentation Type

Round Table

Abstract

Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) encompass over 60 different racial and ethnic groups with unique religions, languages, and immigration histories. Many link AAPIs with the “Model Minority Myth,” but this only serves to strip away individual and collective identities, endorses assimilation, and creates a sense of invisibility.
