Abstract
For African American men, race/ethnicity is tied directly to their masculinity. While gender and sexuality are independent constructs, black culture uses the two interchangeably, equating masculinity to heterosexuality. Addressing their psychological distress may help reduce the stigma surrounding homosexuality and reduce the rates of new HIV cases in African Americans.
