Arab American Well-being: Where counseling misses the mark
Presentation Type
Poster Presentation
Abstract
The collectivist Arab cultural values run contrary to the components of well-being that clinicians are taught to identify as healthy indicators of autonomy, self-acceptance, and personal growth. Solely utilizing measures of well-being developed from Western theories and models neglects an influential component of clients’ cultural identities and experiences.
