Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between increases in the quality of work done and the percent of time spent attending to work by eighth grade students in a regular social studies class. After a baseline was obtained under existing classroom procedures points were given daily Monday through Thursday for the quality of work done and backed up with free-time on Friday, Data were kept on grades and the percent of time the students spent attending to their work. Only small increases in the mean percent correct on assignments wa3 achieved, with correspondingly small increases in attending. Due to the possibility of uncontrolled variables affecting these statistics no conclusions were possible.
