Abstract
Before I began my undergraduate thesis, I was interested in preventative medicine due to my work experience in nursing homes and in the hospital. I saw so many residents and patients who were suffering from diseases ranging from lung cancer to coronary artery disease. Furthermore, I noticed that many patients were diagnosed with hypertension or were obese. I began to realize how common many of the diseases facing our nation are. I also thought that it was unfortunate because many of these conditions could have been prevented.
